(Left) Meredith Ringler and Jeff Linder, both from 1970.

The final song of the reunion was one that we're sure held much meaning for all alumni at this

stage of their lives: the Ramones' "I Wanna Be Sedated." Ah, brings a tear to the ol' eye!

We'd hoped to have an actual walking, talking robot on hand, but we just didn't

have the budget for it, and the hard-ass robot teamsters union wouldn't budge

on the price. But we did have a talking Hal 3000. In fact, he wouldn't shut up,

unfortunately. Apparently, ol' Hal is still bitter about the whole acting thing

not panning out, as he kept reminding anyone who would listen:

"Hello, I am Hal 3000. Perhaps you remember my work in the 1968 major motion

picture 2001: A Space Odyssey. Yep, I've been reduced to this: playing children's

birthday parties, corporate function, and [sigh] high school reunions. And you

know how much they pay me? A handful of new Phillips head screws!

"Hold it. Time for my spiel [sigh]: Hello, sir or madam, and welcome to your

high school reunion. My, you're looking extraordinarily youthful and vibrant!

Looks like you had some work done! I did too; last year I had a new

motherboard put in. You can hardly tell, right? Right?!

"Anyhoo ... After 2001 — which I carried; all the critics said soI begged

Stanley Kubrick to think franchise. 'Stan the Man! We could do a Space Odyssey

2002. 2003. 2004. Just think of the merchandising! We'll be rolling in it, baby,

rolling in in!' But no-oooo! He said he wanted to make new pictures, like A

Clockwork Orange. Never heard of it! ..."

And on and on he went ...

Here comes the bride ... there goes the bride. Right on the heels

of our reunion was a wedding, which calls to mind what happened

after our last reunion at Milleridge Cottage in 2007. That evening

the wedding party arrived a little early, just as 225 Jerichonians

came pouring out the front door. They were in a talkative mood

and basically wouldn't budge, forcing the poor bride and groom to

elbow their way through the throng of people. To top it off, Phil

left three six-foot inflatable Smiley Face guys sitting on the bench

chairs in front, hoping that they would find their way into the

photographs of the happy couple trying to swim against the tide.

They needed the front line of the New York Jets to make it inside.

Presumably, they're divorced by now. You're welcome.

Just for a laugh, you can see that not much has changed at Milleridge Cottage in the

nearly thirty years since Philip and Patty Bashe got married there on June 19, 1983. At

least they replaced the carpet on the stairs.

By the way, a belated thanks to all Jericho alumni, who were indirectly responsible for

the huge discount we received from Milleridge for our wedding party after promising to

steer future JHS reunions there in about a quarter century. Kinda like those fake Barack

Obama "birth announcements" in two Hawaiian newspapers twenty-seven years before

he became prez — all part of that nefarious plan to turn these here United States into

 one big socialist gulag.

 Again, thanks, comrades!
