"The Laurie Farber Collection"

December 1969: Career Day, 1970

Arty-facts courtesy of Laurie Farber ('72)

If you want proof that Jericho High School failed miserably in preparing us for the real world, look no further than this program from the December 17, 1969, Career Day. Oh, sure, there were stewardesses, and architects, and aeronautic engineers, and doctors on hand to give workshops in which they discussed their respective occupations, but where was the instruction in cutting-edge twenty-first-century careers such as reality-show housewife? Or social-media mogul? Or internet porn-site webmaster? Nowhere to be found, that's where! Thanks a lot, Jericho. Former New York Giants running back Frank Gifford, soon to become even more famous as an announcer on ABC's Monday Night Football, was the special guest speaker. But many of the guests representing different careers were our own parents, such as Dr. Merton Wachtel ('73-er Gary Wachtel's dad), Dr. Bernard Schmierer ('71-er Jeff Schmierer's dad), and famed comic book artist Mr. Gil Kane, father of Scott Kane ('73).
