As the evening wound down, the Homestead staff took a break to check out what life was like circa 1971–72, before mankind developed opposable thumbs for texting. My son, Justin Bashe, having volunteered as a docent at Long Island's Cradle of Aviation Museum, gives them a free guided tour.

 

 

 

A bunch of diehards stuck around past midnight. As Phil was packing up, he jokingly asked if anyone wanted to take home Richard Nixon's big ol' head. Victoria, the lovely server, mentioned that the guitar player in the rather good blues band playing in the main room would love to have it. So the class of 1972 gifted the Kevin Kearney Band with Tricky Dick, which the band introduced to its audience, cackling all the while.

 

It made for an appropriately funny-silly ending to a weekend full of laughs.
