Your Teachers — April 2009

A number of your former teachers attended the 19th annual Jericho High School Alumni Hall of Fame induction ceremony at the

Jericho Public Library on April 30, 2009, and the dinner beforehand at Milleridge Inn. We thought you'd like to see their photos.

Mrs. Dolores Hoffman and Mr. Gaston D'Amato, who drove in from Pennsylvania. But where's her husband, Bob Hoffman, the man who started the Hall of Fame?

There he is, with the class of 1971's Joan Baiman Rosenberg, now assistant principal of JHS ...

... and with nominating-committee member Janet

Kesner (JHS '78, and today a resident of

West Birchwood).

Ms. Barbara Murphy, who for years emceed the induction ceremony, with Elizabeth Nicolosi, an author from the class of 1980 and herself an HoF member.

"Retire?! Are you nuts?!"

Mr. Ernest Savaglio.

Mr. Louis Boroson and his wife, Florence.

Here's the always adorable Mrs. Karen Schwartz

with one of her many fans.

From the nominating committee, Mr. Howard Jankowitz (dad of the class of '73's Ellen Jankowitz Eder)

and Mrs. Selma Constant.

Nice shot of Ms. Phyllis Mandel.

Behind her is the current principal

of JHS, Joseph Prisinzano.

At left is Arthur Kaminsky, a member of the

nominating committee, and also a member of the first group of inductees, in 1991. With him is a friend, also from the class of 1964. That's a lot of hair for

age 63, doncha think? We should all be so lucky.

The indispensable Mary Vitale, Mr. Hoffman's

right-hand woman, and Pat Liptak, who videotapes

all of the induction ceremonies.

Mrs. Bernice Baiman (right), a member of the nominating committee (and, of course, Joan Baiman Rosenberg's mom),

with one of the inductees, Jessica Pincus Gershitz ('70)

and her husband.

Ms. Maureen Tracy turns the tables on Phil and takes

a picture of him taking a picture of her ...

... but he gets his shot anyway. Ha!

Left to right, nominating-committee member Philip Bashe ('72), Mr. Lou Boroson, and inductee Robin Bergman ('73), wearing

one of her Robin's Originals creations. Thanks to Mrs. Florence Boroson for taking over shutterbug duties.

Great story behind this photo. Inductee Daisy Khan ('75), who spent her first fifteen years in India, was the first native of that country to enter Jericho schools, as well as the first Muslim. Around 1973-74, her visa was about to expire. It took an impassioned letter from social studies teacher Mr. Ira Greene (left), now an attorney, to keep her in the country. As she told the crowd at the ceremony, "If it wasn't for Mr. Greene, I wouldn't be

here today accepting this honor."
